George Santayana (16 December 1863–26 September 1952), was a Spanish philosopher, litterateur, poet & novelist, better known for the oft-quoted statement, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it," from either Reason in Common Sense, the number one volume of The Life of Reason.
Santayana wrote a select few Xviii volumes of philosophy, when well as poetry, a novel (The Previous Puritan, which was the right seller within 1936), and an autobiography. Biography
Santayana was natural Jorge AugustÃn Nicolás Ruiz de Santayana within Madrid, Spain, but spent his boyhood around Ã?vila. He moved by having his parents to Boston in 1872, when he was nine years old, & took to using a title George, the English variant of Jorge. He attended Boston Latin School, and exposed under William James, Josiah Royce, and Hugo Munsterberg at Harvard University. Graduating from either Harvard around 1886, he studied for 2 years inside Berlin and then returned to Harvard to teach philosophy from 1889 until he retired upon gaining an inheritance in 1912. He so lived for many years inside Paris and Oxford, finally settling inside Rome from 1925 until his death within 1952.
